Broadcasts could previously only be heard in the student union |
A student radio station at Aberystwyth University is to begin broadcasting on the internet for the first time. Bay Radio, which will be on air 24 hours a day, will launch the new service at 0800 GMT on Monday.
Aberystwyth Guild president Beck Corn said the online broadcast would be an "amazing opportunity" to promote student music and events.
The first show on the web will be the student-presented "Chris and Jon at Breakfast".
'Significant step'
Station manager Chris Woodhouse said: "This is a great moment in the history of Bay Radio - students have been working towards this for the last eight years.
"We are delighted to have finally accomplished our goals."
Until now, students at the university were only able to listen to the station within the student union building.
Ms Corn said the new online broadcasts were a "significant step forward".
New music
She said: "It provides an amazing opportunity to promote student-produced music, student-organised events and discuss student issues online, moving Aberystwyth student media beyond the walls of the student union building and even out beyond Aberystwyth itself."
"It is a really positive step, putting Aberystwyth University on the map."
Bay Radio said the station would be available 24 hours a day with shows produced and presented "by students for students".
Programmes will focus on events in Aberystwyth and student issues, and will promote "new, exciting music".
