Tickets to see Jools Holland have sold out, says Brecon Jazz Festival |
Brecon Jazz Festival has announced record receipts during the first month of ticket sales. So far, organisers said they had sold 10,000 tickets for the event in August, twice as many as the same time last year.
Jools Holland's headlining concert has sold out and tickets for shows by singer-songwriters KT Tunstall and Lucie Silvas have nearly all gone.
The gala concert with classical singer Katherine Jenkins is also selling well.
"This is probably one of the fastest-selling festivals I have ever been involved with," said Brecon jazz musical director Jim Smith.
Mr Smith, who has also worked at Glasgow and Cheltenham Jazz Festivals, added: "Brecon jazz is certainly living up to its reputation as the UK's number one jazz festival and one of the biggest cultural events in Wales."
All that jazz - music from 60 years ago and sounds of today |
The festival runs from 11 to 14 August with its trademark mix of big name performances, stroller concerts and street music events.
With the stroller programme announced next month, organisers are anticipating another surge in ticket sales.
The three-day festival opens with a concert on the evening of 11 August with Katherine Jenkins.
The Neath-born classical singer will perform with the National Chamber Orchestra of Wales.
The mezzo-soprano, whose CDs have been topping the classical charts, is the latest big name from outside the jazz world to perform at the gala show.
She follows Super Furry Animals, who opened the festival last year.
Several acts will also pay tribute to saxophone legend Charlie Parker, to mark the 50th anniversary of his death.
KT Tunstall and Jools Holland will perform on 12 August, while Silvas will perform the following day.
Tunstall's album, Eye To The Telescope, is in the UK's top 10 and has sold more than 200,000 copies. She featured at the recent Glastonbury Festival too.
About 70,000 revellers regularly fill the market town during the festival weekend.
