The final pass was down to Eurian's sister Catrin at Aberystwyth Football Club |
A football club has raised 1,000 for a cancer charity by passing a ball down a mountain and into a town. Twenty-five members of the team in Llanilar, Ceredigion, scaled the Plynlimon heights.
Then they faced a 17-mile trek along the A44 to Aberystwyth - finishing off at the town's football ground.
Players and officials took on the challenge after 11-year-old player Eurian Williams, died a week before Christmas of cancer.
The boy's sister, Catrin, kicked the ball into the goal at the ground which brought an end to the fund-raiser. It had started at first light on Tuesday.
Players were taking it in turns to pass the ball to each other as they made their way down the mountain path and into Aberystwyth.
Llanilar Football Club vice-chairman Hugh Morgan said: "I wasn't there, but I'm told there was a gale at the top of the mountain and an ice shower - it was absolutely freezing.
"Adult members of the team started at the top of the mountain and then junior members joined in later.
"We raised 1,000 and people have been generous. We had people carrying buckets and people we met en-route gave generously."
Mr Morgan added: "About 25 members of the club took part in the relay and dribbled and passed the ball amongst themselves.
"We have no plans at the moment for more fund raising events, but it was a very poignant moment to do this one."
Mr Morgan said the club had decided to raise money for the Welsh cancer charity Latch, because two young people in the village had cancer.
