Pat Field was diagnosed with breast cancer in March |
A Pembrokeshire woman diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year has inspired her village to stage a week of fundraising events. Saundersfoot is turning 'pink' for the next six days to increase awareness and fund research into the disease.
Businesses and villagers are joining in after Pat Field was found to have cancer following a routine scan.
The 51-year-old resident is currently undergoing chemotherapy after an operation in March.
But she has still found the time and energy to help co-ordinate events.
These range from a quiz night on Thursday to a sponsored walk on Sunday and a disco on Tuesday.

On Saturday, many of the businesses in Saundersfoot will be decorated pink, with staff wearing pink-coloured clothes.
The colour is being used by Cancer Research UK Cymru to promote October as Breast Cancer Awareness month.
"I had no idea I had it," said mother-of-two Ms Field.
"I had just gone for a routine scan. It was an immense shock.
"That's why I want to raise awareness of breast cancer and to get women to go for a check and not put it off."
If her treatment continues to go to plan, Ms Field will complete chemotherapy in early December.
Pat Field is amazed at the support she has had in Saundersfoot |
She said the support she has received from her village has been incredible.
"We were just going to do one event at first, but there was so much support and so many people said they wanted to do something," she added.
"Words fail me - what can you say?
"Close friends are involved, people I hardly know and even holiday makers have made a donation."
By the end of the week, Ms Field is hoping that thousands of pounds will have been raised for Cancer Research Cymru.
Star turn
Alison Ebsworth, who works at the tourist information centre in Saundersfoot, said the response to the campaign was overwhelming.
"When holiday makers come to Saundersfoot they are surprised to see the village is literally pink," she said.
"Many cannot believe the closeness of the community and how everybody is pulling together."
One of the events, a prize draw on Saturday, will include prizes donated by Sir Anthony Hopkins, the Llanelli Scarlets and the Welsh Rugby Union.
"What has been amazing is the amount of support that Pat has received from not only businesses in the village, but those from outside," added Ms Ebsworth.
