Goose and gosling 'shot' at pond
Goslings
Four orphaned gosling are being cared for at a rescue centre
A goose and gosling found dead beside a pond in south Wales might have been shot, the RSPCA has said.

A vet which examined the birds said puncture holes in their bodies could indicate they had been shot, although there were no exit wounds.

The geese were found at Cefn Golau Pond in Tredegar. Four surviving goslings have been taken in by Swan Rescue.

Last month, a pair of swans was found dead in a park near Wrexham, leaving three cygnets orphaned.

The RSPCA believed they had been attacked by youths throwing stones and firing airpistols at Stryt Las Park in Rhosllanerchrugog.

A post mortem examination revealed that the female swan had been savaged by a dog.

An anonymous woman has offered a 5,000 reward for information leading to the culprits' convictions.

An RSPCA spokesman said of the latest attack: "It's barbaric, it's cruel and it's causing untold suffering to these innocent animals who have done nothing wrong.

"There has been a spate of these attacks and there does seem to be a slight trend involving air rifles injuring or killing animals.

"There can be no justification for this kind of random attack of cruelty."

Anyone with any information in the case of the goose and gosling is asked to call the RSPCA National Cruelty and Advice Line on 0870 55 55 999.
