Taxi driver raped teen passenger

A taxi driver has been convicted of raping a schoolgirl and indecently assaulting a woman in his cab.

Swansea Crown Court heard Nigel Warren Phillips, 36, raped the 15-year-old girl as he drove her home from a night out with friends in Mumbles.

The 22-year-old woman was indecently assaulted two years later as Phillips drove her to Glais, near Swansea.

Phillips, of Croft, Gower, will be sentenced once reports are completed.

The court heard he attacked the teenage girl while working for Sketty Cabs.

He moved to work for Penlan Cabs before carrying out the second assault.

Both victims knew Phillips by his nickname "Psycho".

During the trial, the jury was told Phillips was a sexual predator who repeatedly made sexual remarks to female passengers.

The 15-year-old had been on a night-out with schoolfriends and their taxi home had been pre-booked.

The trial heard he dropped off her two friends and then began making sexual remarks to her as she sat next to him at the front of the vehicle.

She said she became so afraid she froze and he turned up a country lane, where he raped her.

"With a taxi driver you think you are safe," she had told the trial.

The jury heard that the 22-year-old victim regularly used Penlan Cabs for a taxi to take her to her boyfriend's home and got to know Phillips.

But she became so concerned that she asked the taxi firm not to send Phillips again.

She again called for a taxi and Phillips turned up, disguised in glasses and a baseball cap. He sexually assaulted her.

Judge John Diehl adjourned sentence for a report to be prepared assessing how much of a risk Phillips posed to women.

He was remanded in custody in the meantime.
