A Shrewsbury taxi driver has been sent to prison for seven years for raping a customer. Paul Edwards, 36, from Wingfield Gardens in the town, was found guilty of raping a 22-year-old woman after she left a nightclub last December.
Shrewsbury Crown Court heard she was driven around for half an hour before she was attacked.
Edwards was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and banned from working as a taxi driver.
'No remorse'
The woman told the court she got into Edwards' taxi to go to a friend's house.
She said she had been drinking but knew what she was doing and thought she would be safer going home in a taxi.
Edwards was found not guilty of two charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Judge David McEvoy told him he showed no remorse and his victim had suffered panic attacks, had to give up work and became suicidal.
