The parents of a teenage girl who hanged herself said they are still questioning the motive behind her death.

Laura Kilibarda, 13, was found hanging from the rafters in her bedroom at the family home in Lisvane, Cardiff in April this year.

During an inquest into her death at Cardiff Coroners Court on Wednesday, police said they found no evidence that Laura had been the victim of a bullying campaign.

But speaking after the hearing, Laura's parents, George and Penny Kilibarda said they had been contacted by their daughter's friends who said she had been targeted.

Mrs Kilibarda said: "I did on several occasions try to talk to Laura about bullying, she would never want to point the finger at anyone.

"When asked about bullying she said 'I try and avoid people that could be aggressive, I try and stay with my friends,' that was her way of dealing with it.

"She refused to articulate a problem, but we did wonder and certainly following her death various school friends contacted us and did tell us that there was bullying.

"But, the police have obviously undertaken an investigation and if in their opinion found no evidence then we have to accept that," said Mrs Kilibarda.

At the inquest, GP Sion Edwards told how Laura had visited him two days before her death.

During the consultation, he said that Laura asked for a pregnancy test, the result of which was negative.

She also showed him cuts on her arms and stomach which she had inflicted on herself.

He said that he was concerned that Laura was suffering from depression and described her as being in "agitated and anxious".

Detective Constable Michael Hicks told the inquest how Laura's diary and a torn-up note revealed she had suicidal thoughts.

He said: "She kept it (diary) for six-months up until a fortnight before her death.

"There were a lot of sad undertones. She was clearly unhappy and made certain comments - one said that she was considering killing herself," he said.

He said that an investigation into bullying claims was carried out by the police.

"She had confrontations with certain children at school and words had been exchanged, but no more than is usual at school," said Det Con Hicks.

"We spoke to 25 of her friends and the consensus was that she could look after herself," he added.

Cardiff and Vale Coroner Doctor Lawrence Addicott recorded a suicide verdict.

He said: "Laura was depressed and of low self-esteem.

"The writing in her book indicates that she was disturbed and depressed. The note she tore up had certain morbid thoughts in it," he added.

Following the hearing, Penny Kilibarda, Laura's mother said: "There must be somebody that she talked to, someone must have the knowledge that she was planning what she was doing.

"We are left wondering, we are both looking for clues," she added.
