The Cardiff-born star, top right, suffered a black eye
Former Hear'Say pop star Noel Sullivan is to take legal action after being injured in an incident at a Cardiff nightclub over a bottle of champagne.

Mr Sullivan was treated for a black eye after being ejected from Cardiff's Liquid nightclub.

The 22-year-old has complained to police about his treatment at the club.

He claims he was roughly thrown out of the premises head first by doormen, injuring his knee and his neck.

A spokesman for Mr Sullivan from Polydor Records said: "An incident did take place in the early hours of Friday morning and the police are now dealing with the matter.

"He was injured and will be taking action against the club."

Police are studying CCTV footage from the club and the street at the time of the incident in the early hours of Friday morning as well as interviewing staff at the club.

Band split

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Police are investigating a report of an assault late on Thursday night at the Liquid night club in St Mary Street in Cardiff."

Noel had been out with friends just days after the manufactured band which shot him to fame had split up.

Customers in the club said Noel, who used to be mobbed by screaming youngsters when at the height of his fame, offered to pay for the champagne with a credit card.

He was told the club's electronic cash system was not working and the bill was settled by his friends.

But Noel was accused of being rude and was asked to leave.

A doorman was called over and Noel claims it was at this point that he was thrown out onto the pavement.

He later made an official complaint of assault against a doormen.

Jon Brett, spokesman for Luminar Leisure, who own the club, said: "Noel was asked to leave following allegations of anti-social behaviour.

"Customer safety is our priority and Noel is not welcome at Liquid until the police investigation concludes."
