A postman has threatened to stop deliveries to one south Wales resident after he was repeatedly attacked by cats.

The cats' owner, pensioner John Davies from Pontprennau in Cardiff, has now been warned by the Royal Mail to keep his cat Boo Boo and her kitten Yogi under control after they attacked the postman for the third time.

Postman John Blackburn chalked the two first two attacks up to experience - but decided to take action when the third attack drew blood.

"Blood was dripping onto the driveway and over other letters in my bag," he said.

"After the attack the cat jumped up on the window sill and looked out at me as if to say 'got you that time'".

The attacks happened while owner Mr Davies was out of his flat.

The first he knew about the incidents was when the postman put a note through his door to apologise for the bloodstains on his letterbox and mail.

Mr Davies is now considering having a wire mesh box fixed on the inside of his front door to prevent the attacks.

"I can't understand the attacks. They are both really well-behaved cats but are very playful," he said.

"They probably saw the hand coming through the letter box and wanted to play with it. I suppose I'll have to call her Boo Boo the Barbarian after this."

A royal Mail spokeswoman said: "We are concerned about the injuries received by our postman.

"If he is attacked again we will have no alternative but to suspend mail delivery to Mr Davies's home."

According to the Royal Mail, there have been 49 reports postmen being injured by animals in the Cardiff and South Wales Valleys area.

Most of the attacks are by dogs but there have been attacks involving geese and pheasants.
