 | | Friday, 22 March, 2002, 10:41 GMT Pheasant is unpleasant to postman  A postman has come under repeated attack from an angry pheasant on his rounds in a Cotswold village. Geoffrey Sandles, who calls the bird Psycho, said it had ambushed him several times in Withington, Gloucestershire. The attacks began the day after a postman ran over another bird five miles away, he said. "It won't let me go to some of the houses in the village," said Mr Sandles.
The bird, a cock, watches out for his red van. "It will jump off the wall, get behind the van and get between me and the house I'm delivering to and flap its feathers to try to stop me delivering the mail," said Mr Sandles. Sometimes he has to delay delivering to some houses in the oldest part of the village until the bird has gone. Chased van Mr Sandles originally found the bird's escapades amusing, until it stepped up its attacks. "One day this pheasant jumped over a five-bar gate and flew straight into my face." The bird has also chased his van for half a mile, almost getting trapped in the wheels. Mr Sandles said he resisted the opportunity to end the vendetta. | |
