New city park and ride service

Stirling bus drives to park and ride area
The new park and ride service has 200 spaces available

Stirling's second park and ride facility begins operating on Monday.

The service, based at Castleview Park, is being opened by Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson and will serve the north and west of the city.

Buses will operate from the site, which has 200 spaces and is near junction 10 of the M9 motorway, six days a week.

Adults will be charged 1 while children will pay 50p. The city's first park and ride opened at Springkerse in September 2005.

Stirling councillor Jim Thomson said the new site should help cut congestion.

He added: "Our roads are getting busier each year and the more we can do to provide alternatives and give the public a choice, the more it improves the experience of visiting Stirling.

"It's not just about tackling congestion, this new bus route provides an opportunity for people who don't have their own transport to access destinations along the route."

The service will call at Castle Business Park, the Smith Art Gallery and Museum, Dumbarton Road and St Ninians Road before returning to the park and ride site via King's Park and Stirling Golf Club.
