The cash will mean the Western Park and Ride system will be completed |
Roads in Stirling will benefit from spending totalling 42m over the next five years. The money will be spent mainly on road maintenance and improvement schemes. Projects to be completed include the Western Park and Ride site and the upgrading of key routes and junctions leading into the city centre. Other schemes include city centre bus priority initiatives and expansion of 20mph zones in and around the city centre. Improvements to the road network across the council area will continue, with 6.32m being spent each year for the next five years on carriageway resurfacing and improvement schemes, including white lining and replacing road signs and cats eyes. Cllr Jim Thomson, executive member with portfolio for environment, said: "Improving the roads network in both rural and urban areas is a top priority for communities and that's why I'm pleased we have demonstrated a long-term investment commitment to carrying out this work. "Better roads and a good transport network will help the local economy grow and make Stirling an even more attractive place to live, work, visit and do business." During the current financial year 111 road resurfacing and associated improvement schemes will take place.
