Taxi drivers have threatened to bring the city to a standstill |
Taxi drivers are preparing to stage more rolling road blocks in Dundee as part of a row with the authorities. A convoy of more than 50 cabs drove through the city centre last Friday afternoon to draw attention to the bitter dispute.
Since then, talks aimed at ending the disagreement have broken down.
Trade representatives told BBC Scotland that they expected more protests to be held in the city centre on Friday afternoon.
Drivers have made a total of 13 complaints to Dundee City Council and Tayside Police over issues such as taxi rank space and private hire firms.
They were on the agenda at a meeting of the local authority's taxi liaison group earlier this week, which was branded a "farce" by trade representatives.
They walked out and threatened more industrial action after being presented with a written list of responses to their grievances.
Dundee City Council said a copy of the responses would be posted to the city's 1,750 taxi drivers and 550 operators over the weekend so they could "make up their own minds" about the dispute.
Lord provost John Letford, convenor of the local authority's licensing committee, said he had been contacted by a number of drivers who were against the industrial action.
He said: "I wanted to share this information as widely as possible to help get a positive dialogue going with the taxi trade.
"I feel they are being let down by some of their representatives who refuse to talk about substantive issues and instead rely on theatrical gestures like walking out of meetings.
"I am detecting a growing groundswell of opinion against pointless action like storming out of meetings and disrupting city centre traffic."
