Cab drivers have threatened to strike at peak times

Trade and union representatives have organised a mass meeting to discuss the concerns of all the city's cab drivers.

They include complaints about the large number of licence plates being issued and a shortage of rank spaces.

BBC Scotland has been told one of the options being considered by drivers was the withdrawal of services during busy weekend peak times.

A decision on the way forward will be made at a meeting in Dundee on Tuesday, which up to 400 drivers were expected to attend.

Chris Elder from the Unite union claimed many cab drivers were prepared to "take a stand" to protect their livelihood.

He said: "There are that many taxis and private hire vehicles now, and there are not enough rank spaces.

"We've been asking the council to stop putting any more taxis on and they've said they're not prepared to cap the town.

"There's less people using taxis with the factories closing down.

"The guys are getting fed up. We don't want to go on strike.
