Heavy rainfall warning to drivers

Police have warned of the danger of surface water on the roads

Police have issued a warning about driving conditions in southern Scotland amid another bout of heavy rainfall.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary said that up to 25mm of rain was forecast over a three hour period from 1000 BST.

They have asked motorists to take care during this time and allow extra time for any journeys.

A spokesman said that drivers should be particularly aware of the dangers of standing water on road surfaces across the region.

It is the latest in a string of weather warnings for the south of Scotland this summer due to heavy downpours.

The latest alert covers the south west of Scotland and the north west of England.

Flood watches are also in place across several parts of Scotland.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency is monitoring water levels in Dumfries and Galloway, the Borders, west central Scotland, the upper Tay, Argyll, Stirling and the Rivers Earn, Isla and Ericht.
