Home building plans seek progress

Land opposite Maxwelltown High School fetched �1.5m

Plans which would see more than 250 homes built in south-west Scotland have been recommended for approval.

Social landlord Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership wants to construct the properties in two separate developments in Dumfries.

The first project would see 174 homes built at a site opposite the town's Maxwelltown High School where concerns were raised about increased traffic.

Another scheme would replace 112 flats in the Lochside area with 78 houses.

Both plans have been recommended for approval by Dumfries and Galloway Council's Nithsdale area committee.

However, a number of objections have been received to the proposals near Maxwelltown High School.

Concerns have been raised about the traffic impact of the scheme.

No such fears have been expressed over the second project at Babbington Drive, Babbington Crescent and Dalswinton Avenue.

The council has received no representations against that plan.

Councillors will meet next week to discuss the projects which are part of wider regeneration proposals for north west Dumfries.
