South west tops house price rises

South west Scotland showed the highest rise in prices
South west Scotland has shown the highest increase in the country in its average price for house sales.

Figures released by Registers of Scotland showed an 8% increase between January and March this year compared to the same period 12 months ago.

Statistics for south west of Scotland saw its average price rise by 12.5%.

The average property in the area now sells for just over �109,000 which is still well short of the national figure which is more than �124,000.

Other areas performing well included Highlands and Islands (12.1%) and the Scottish Borders (9.8%).

The figures also showed that average prices across the country declined by 1.2% compared to the previous three months.
