The forestry commission has been battling the fire |
An emergency team of up to 30 forestry workers is trying to control a fire burning on a three-mile front near Loch Dee in the Galloway Forest Park. They have been assisted by a helicopter dropping water from nearby supplies as part of the operation.
The grass fire has spread across up to 60 square miles of the forest park, stretching south from Loch Doon.
It is understood the blaze was started accidentally on Sunday by two people camping in the area.
One problem facing those on the ground is the inaccessibility of much of the affected area.
Latest reports say the blaze around Loch Doon has been brought under control.
Efforts were being concentrated on the southern outbreak but have been hampered by the fact that it is three miles from the nearest road.
