Funding found for housing schemes
Scottish Borders Council
The council agreed to help fund the two social housing schemes
Scottish Borders Council has agreed to provide funding to allow two key social housing developments to progress.

The authority has agreed to proposals by social work director Andrew Lowe that money be provided from its council tax fund towards the projects.

It should help the developments at Hartrig in Jedburgh and at Stonefield in Hawick to be realised.

Mr Lowe said he was delighted that the "much needed" projects had been awarded the funding they required.

Affordable housing

He said the authority was committed to providing affordable housing in the region.

"We have seen in recent times the housing market really taking off as part of the boom that's being experienced in Edinburgh," he said.

"So, increasingly it is hard for local people to get housing that they can afford.

"Everything we can do to support more affordable housing we are doing at the moment."
