More textile jobs cut in Borders
A Borders firm has blamed tough foreign competition and soaring fuel prices for the loss of 10 textile jobs.

Johnstons of Elgin in Hawick said the redundancies were vital for the health and profitability of the company.

Johnstons employ 700 people overall - 260 in Hawick - and remain optimistic of their prospects in the luxury market of the cashmere industry.

The news comes just over a week after 23 jobs were lost in Innerleithen with the collapse of MA Cashmere.
