Coloured boots played a part in Hunter's difficulties |
Administrators have confirmed that attempts to sell brightly coloured wellies played a part in the financial problems of the Hunter Rubber Company. The Dumfries firm went into administration on 10 April before being taken over by a new consortium.
A spokesman for KPMG confirmed that the wellington boots, including pink, did not achieve the hoped-for sales.
Some 48 jobs were lost when the firm went into administration before finding a new buyer to retain the famous name.
Richard Fleming, joint administrator and KPMG restructuring partner, confirmed the move into new colours had not been as successful as was hoped.
"The pink wellies together with some of the other new colours did not achieve enough sales," he said.
"This was one of the factors contributing to the administration of Hunters."
'Good result'
The confirmation came as Mr Fleming was in Dumfries for a meeting with creditors.
The 150-year-old firm - which boasted customers such as Madonna and Kate Moss - went into administration in April.
It was eventually bought over by a new consortium headed by Conservative party treasurer Jonathan Maitland.
The move retained 64 posts in the town and was hailed by administrators as a "good result" for the company's employees and creditors.
