Ferry plan to bring passengers stranded by volcano home

Hamnavoe will ferry passengers from Norway to Scotland

A ferry is to be used to bring hundreds of stranded UK citizens from Norway to Scotland after they were caught up in the volcanic ash flight disruption.

The Northlink vessel Hamnavoe operates on the Pentland Firth route between Orkney and Caithness.

The vessel will leave for Norway on Tuesday night and is only expected to return to normal service on Friday.

Northlink's vessel Hrossey will also run a daily shuttle service between Shetland and Aberdeen to meet demand.

Hamnavoe will bring people from Norway to Aberdeen.

The passengers have been stranded by the flight restrictions which have been introduced following the volcanic eruptions in Iceland.
