Hope for closure-threatened mill

Inverurie paper mill
International Paper acquired the mill in 1996 but said it was unprofitable

A Norwegian company could take over part of the closure-threatened Inverurie Paper Mill, it has emerged.

Scottish Enterprise has been involved in discussions with International Paper - which owns the Aberdeenshire plant - and Biowood Norway.

It is understood the Scandinavian company is looking to widen its wood pellet operations in Scotland.

Scottish Enterprise said it was working with the mill, which has almost 400 workers, to explore every opportunity.

International Paper acquired the historic mill in 1996 but said in October that it was "unprofitable and not financially viable".
