Piper Alpha was the world's worst offshore incident

A play which pays tribute to the 167 men who died on the night of the Piper Alpha disaster 20 years ago is being performed in Aberdeen.

The North Sea oil platform was engulfed in flames on 6 July 1988.

Lest We Forget will be performed at The Lemon Tree from Wednesday until Sunday - the 20th anniversary.

In one line, a character in the play says: "I had never heard a city cry before. But in the days after Piper Alpha, Aberdeen wept."

Piper Alpha was the world's worst ever offshore accident.

Lest We Forget charts the lives of four fictional characters affected by the disaster.

Playwright Mike Gibb said it was an opportunity to tell the story from the point of view of the victims.

A series of events has been organised to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.

Oil and Gas UK chaplain Andrew Jolly will lead a service at the Kirk of St Nicholas in Aberdeen on Sunday at 1400 BST.

Later, at 1600 BST at the Piper Alpha Memorial in Hazlehead Park there will be an Act of Remembrance followed by the laying of wreaths and flowers at the foot of the memorial.
