The new Flybe routes will be launched in 2008
One of Europe's largest low cost airlines has said it wants to take over flights between Aberdeen and Gatwick.

Flybe wants to fill the gap left by British Airways, which announced it is pulling out of the route from the end of March.

Flybe - which also announced it is to begin services from Aberdeen to Southampton and Jersey next year - has opened negotiations with BAA.

The airline told BBC Scotland that Gatwick was an important destination.

Flybe will also increase its service from the Dyce terminal to Exeter to a daily one.

Flybe's chief commercial officer Mike Rutter said the new routes from Aberdeen offered more passenger choice.
