New heights for Aberdeen Airport

There are plans for more investment at Aberdeen Airport
The number of passengers using Aberdeen Airport has soared by more than 10% in the past year.

Figures released by airport operator BAA Scotland show 314,000 extra passengers took the total to 3.23m.

The growth was fuelled by an 18% rise in the number of international passengers, up by 129,098. Domestic traffic rose by 123,003 (7%).

Aberdeen has been consistently among the fastest growing of BAA's UK airports.

'Better experience'

Kevin Brown, managing director of Aberdeen Airport, said: "We're delighted to have added over 300,000 new passengers over the past year, more than any other airport in Scotland.

"This increase is good for Aberdeen Airport, good for business and good for tourism. In order to sustain this growth, we must invest for the future. And we will.

"This year, BAA has earmarked millions of pounds for new terminal and airfield facilities at Aberdeen Airport. This will allow us to boost capacity in the busy terminal building and provide a better customer experience for our growing number of passengers."

A new air link between Aberdeen and Brussels was recently announced with the help of Scottish Executive funding. Bmi Regional will start daily flights to the Belgian capital in April.

Bmi Regional had also announced it is to start daily flights between Aberdeen and Kristiansand in Norway from 26 March.
