An Aberdeen man has been jailed for almost six years in the United States for his part in a multi-million pounds drug smuggling operation. David Calder, 36, admitted money laundering and importing components used to manufacture the so-called date rape drug GHB.
Calder had been extradited from Scotland for his case to be heard in the US courts.
The Scottish Drug Enforcement Agency (SDEA) welcomed the conviction.
Calder had lost a lengthy battle against his extradition in February.
He was arrested in June 2004 by Scottish police and judges ruled that he should be sent to the US for trial.
SDEA director Graeme Pearson told BBC Scotland: "I am pleased that Calder was sentenced in San Francisco.
"It brings to a conclusion our two-year investigation and drive to bring him to the courts.
"Calder spotted a gap in the market."
