Shetland workers reject pay deal
Shetland Islands Council
Councillors will meet in April to decide the way forward
Members of the Unison union have rejected Shetland Islands Council's equal pay offer for staff.

It has emerged that 93% of members who returned their ballot papers voted against the proposal.

The union is now calling on the council to go back to the negotiating table in a bid to resolve the matter.

Shetland Islands Council said the pay offer on the table could not now go ahead. Councillors will meet in April to discuss the next step.

The single status agreement aims to give men and women an equal salary for the same value of work across manual and office jobs.
