Tests were being carried out on a Sea King helicopter |
A rescue helicopter has had to carry out an emergency landing at RAF Lossiemouth after the aircraft developed a tail rotor fault. The incident happened at the Moray RAF base shortly after 2000 BST on Monday.
The four-man rescue team were carrying out an air test on their Sea King helicopter when a fault struck.
It caused the helicopter to spin and the pilot was forced to carry out an "extremely difficult" emergency landing on the runway.

The crew of Rescue 137, which carries out dozens or missions in Scotland each year, were conducting an air test at their base to check an earlier warning on the aircraft.
A spokesman for the Rescue Co-ordination Centre based at RAF Kinloss said: "There had been vibrations on the aircraft and the crew were carrying out a test.
"Something malfunctioned, probably broke on the tail rotor and the helicopter crashed on the runway.
"The pilot was superb to land the helicopter on its wheels. There is a huge pat on the back for him."
