Runs open for bumper ski weekend

Ski centres across Scotland are gearing up for a busy weekend as almost all runs have benefited from heavy snow.

Nevis Range, near Fort William, described the conditions as "near alpine".

CairnGorm Mountain, Glenshee, Glencoe and The Lecht also reported fresh snow, on top of the dumps of snow from earlier in the week.

In 2007, Scotland's ski resorts reported one of the worst seasons for snow sports.

But on Friday, CairnGorm said its lower slopes were in "great condition" and the Coire Cas and White Lady runs were in "fantastic condition".

Glenshee said it had more snow overnight and some of its wind-swept runs were hard packed and icy, but it was nearly perfect conditions elsewhere.

On its website, Nevis Range said: "Near alpine conditions.

"All main runs on the front face complete with fresh snow on a hard base giving great skiing."

Glencoe said all its runs had an excellent cover of wind-packed powder snow and The Lecht also reported fresh snow falls.
