The sighting of a Scandinavian butterfly in the Scottish Highlands could be a further sign of global warming, experts have suggested.

The Camberwell beauty was spotted in Nethybridge, Inverness-shire.

Butterfly Conservation Scotland said there were sightings of the migrant last year, but were surprised to have a report of one so early in the year.

The group's Paul Kirkland said that the numbers of migrants seen had been increasing.

He added: "Again, this could be because of climate change.

"The Camberwell beauty is a fantastic looking butterfly."

The butterfly was spotted sunning itself on a track in Nethybridge and flying around the treetops on Saturday.

It has a distinctive gliding flight.
