Vomiting bug hits ward and home
Caithness General
Caithness General stopped admitting new patients to the Rosebank ward
A hospital ward and care home in Wick have been hit by an outbreak of the "winter vomiting" bug.

Caithness General Hospital stopped admitting new patients to the Rosebank ward last Thursday after nine people fell ill.

Meanwhile, 11 elderly residents and 15 staff at Pulteney House have gone down with the virus.

Hospital managers noted an increase in cases at the care home towards the middle of last week.

It caters for people of all ages with a variety of acute medical conditions and is also the base for the hospital's high dependency unit.

An NHS Highland spokeswoman said the virus was being treated as norovirus, commonly known as the winter vomiting bug.

A spokeswoman for Pulteney House, which is run by Highland Council, said all the affected residents had seen their GPs and none was found to be seriously ill.
