The new development will create 1,800 jobs

Manchester-based Dandara Ltd said the mixed-use Anderston Quay project would create a gateway to Glasgow city centre to the west of the Kingston Bridge.

The 1.4 hectare site would feature 853 apartments split between four 22-storey towers on a vacant brownfield site.

The development would also include 18,460 sq m of Grade A office and retail space and 762 parking spaces.

Dandara, who played a key role in Manchester's regeneration, said the residential element of the development would offer views over the Clyde and Glasgow city skyline.

A total of six buildings would be built around small public piazzas, with leisure and retail outlets alongside the office and residential accommodation.

The site, which was previously used as a car park, lies close to the city's financial district and will be designed by award winning Glasgow architects GM & AD partnership.

The project forms part of the �5.6bn Clyde Waterfront regeneration plan, which aims to transform an eight mile stretch of waterfront from Glasgow city centre to Erskine.

Dandara has submitted a detailed planning proposal for the development to Glasgow City Council, with the authority's planning committee likely to make a decision later in the year.

Development plans

If approved, Dandara hopes to begin work in October 2007, with the first phase due to be completed in 2010. The project is likely to create 1,800 jobs.
