Developers said the new building would be a stunning addition to the skyline

The former Intercity House site near Glasgow Central station will be turned into a nine-storey, 71,000 sq ft office and retail development.

To be renamed Evolution, the building will occupy a high-profile site next to the award-winning Radisson Hotel.

Buccleuch Property said it was confident that work could begin on the site in January 2008.

Sandy Smith, development director at Buccleuch Property, said: "Evolution will be one of the biggest speculatively built office developments to start in Glasgow next year and commands a hugely prominent position on a busy city-centre site.

"Following detailed pre-submission discussions with Glasgow City Council, we are hopeful that planning consent will be granted in early course, allowing construction to commence in January 2008.
