Unison postponed the strike until a meeting is held on Tuesday |
Workers at Scotland's largest local authority have postponed strike action next week, according to a trade union. About 600 social care staff at Glasgow City Council were due to take part in the industrial action on Monday.
Union officials said the dispute was focussed on a disagreement with the council over job grading.
A council spokesman said the authority would not give in over the issue. Unison said that a mass meeting of staff would take place on Tuesday.
The affected staff manage the cases for children at risk, vulnerable adults and offenders and are accountable to the children's panel, courts and formal community care reviews.
Ronnie Stevenson, Unison's Glasgow convener of social work stewards, said: "We intend to put this new threat to our members on Tuesday and have therefore postponed any action until after that meeting."
The council spokesman said: "The suspension of strike action will give us further time to reinforce the message that the whole process around pay and benefits review is far from over.
"We want a fair settlement for staff to help us deliver high quality, value-for-money services to some of Glasgow's most vulnerable people."
