An agreement was reached after negotiations in City Chambers

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said a negotiated settlement had been reached between the local authority and the union Unison.

The walkout had been scheduled to begin on Tuesday as a row over staff pay escalated.

A settlement followed talks between the council and the union over the weekend and into Monday.

After a meeting, Glasgow City Unison branch chairman Mike Kirby and council leader Steven Purcell issued a statement.

"Glasgow City Council and Unison have reached an agreement about the implementation of the workforce pay and benefits review," they said.

"We will now work together on staff development and service reform in order to ensure that we deliver a high quality service to the citizens of Glasgow and protect take home pay in the long-term."

Unison opposed changes to the council's pay structure which it claimed could cost some members up to �9,000.
