Plans for a new stadium at Sighthill were drawn up earlier this year |
The leader of a group studying major public sports venues in Edinburgh has said national funding is inadequate for such facilities across the country. Terry Christie, a former head teacher, said while the best option in Edinburgh would be to refurbish Meadowbank Stadium, the cost would not be viable.
As a result he recommended, in a newly-published report, demolition and building a new arena at Meadowbank.
Edinburgh Council are due to discuss the report at a meeting on Thursday.
Mr Christie said if costs did not allow for building a new stadium at Meadowbank, his "second best option" was selling the site and using the money to finance a development at Sighthill in west Edinburgh.
