The fire service condemned those who carried out the attack |
Senior fire officers have condemned a gang who attacked crew members as they attended a grass fire in Glasgow. The gang stole firefighting equipment and left one firefighter with a minor injury following the attack in Castlemilk on Monday evening.
A spokesman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Service criticised the "minority of individuals who carry out such acts" on crews.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack.
The incident happened at about 1945 BST in Croftfoot Terrace in Castlemilk.
The spokesman said: "During this fracas one crew member sustained a minor injury and firefighting equipment was stolen from the fire appliance.
"Firefighters put themselves at risk to carry out their duties saving life and protecting property.
"This risk should not be increased by a minority of individuals who carry out such acts of anti-social behaviour, which cannot be tolerated."
There were 174 attacks on Strathclyde personnel during 2003-2004, a sharp increase on the previous 12 months.
