Fire engines came under attack on three occasions |
Firefighters were shot at with an air gun as crews came under a series of attacks in Glasgow. A fire appliance was damaged in the incident in Govan on Friday night.
The same crew was attacked a second time only half an hour later, while another crew from Cowcaddens was also targeted by youths.
A spokesperson for Strathclyde Fire Brigade warned it was only a matter of time before a firefighter was seriously injured.
The first attack was carried out on a crew from Cowcaddens on Friday evening.
Firefighters tackling a fire at a building in the Maryhill area came under attack from youths throwing missiles.
At about 2130 BST an appliance from Govan was shot at on Summertown Road while travelling to a report of a rubbish fire in Copland Road. The same crew came under attack 30 minutes later while attending a grass fire in Ardlaw Street.
A spokesperson said: "Fortunately none of the fire crews received any injury as a result of the attacks, but the Govan appliance did sustain some damage from the gunshot.
"This behaviour is unacceptable and the perpetrators should consider the possible consequences of this behaviour.
"Should these attacks on fire crews continue, it is only a matter of time before a firefighter is seriously injured."
