Organisers have taken the wraps off the final line-up for Edinburgh's Hogmanay bash, which will start on 29 December.

A torchlight procession from Parliament Square to Calton Hill will be followed by a fireworks display.

The party on the big night will kick off with a candlelit concert at St Giles Cathedral.

Celebrations at the Royal Bank Street Party are being headlined by Scottish acts Texas, KT Tunstall and El Presidente.

A ceilidh at East Princes Street Gardens and Mound Square will be held to mark the beginning of 2006.

On 1 January there will be the chance to take part in the one o'clock run from Edinburgh Castle Esplanade or the Edinburgh Bicycle Triathlon at the Royal Commonwealth Pool and Holyrood Park.

The celebrations will also include the Night Afore International on 30 December, featuring a 150-strong human tower, 250 Catalan street theatre performers and a Catalan parade.

More than 100,000 revellers are expected to line the streets for the Hogmanay knees-up, which will include acts on four stages across the capital.

Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said: "This year's Hogmanay celebrations prove that as the best small country in the world, Scotland puts on the biggest and best parties.

"Edinburgh's programme of events promises an explosion of cultural activity that reinforces Scotland's place as a modern, vibrant, forward-thinking country."

Lord Provost Lesley Hinds said: "There is no doubt that Edinburgh's Hogmanay brings a tremendous atmosphere to the city.

"It places Edinburgh and Scotland firmly on the international map."

She added: "This year's programme really is one of the most exciting and varied we have ever had.

"There really is something for everyone."

Last year thousands braved the cold of the capital to see legendary US act Blondie, led by singer Debbie Harry, and New York band the Scissor Sisters.
