Glasgow Hogmanay tickets on sale
25,000 revellers will descend on George Square
Tickets for Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations in the city's George Square have gone on sale.

Up to 25,000 revellers are expected to party into 2006 at the event. Tickets for the festivities cost 5 and are limited to four per household.

The bill will be headlined by indie band Athlete and Hue & Cry.

At midnight, the New Year will be marked by a Scotland Party Hour which will feature Deacon Blue and a fireworks display.

Another innovation will be on-stage entertainment between the headline acts.

There will also be appearances by acts as diverse as Mischief la Bas, Scottish Rockettes, The Divine Company and Dhol Infusion.

Organisers said the aim was to show "Scotland is the place to be at Hogmanay".

Lord Provost Liz Cameron said: "I'm sure that the headline acts along with the many other fantastic performers on our programme will ensure a great Hogmanay.

"There is something for everyone to enjoy on the night from indie to the 80s and, of course, we will have the traditional pipes and fireworks to make it an excellent celebration.

'Glasgow Hogmanay city'

"The quality of performers and bands, combined with the fact that Glasgow is a great city for a party, will guarantee Hogmanay revellers a night to remember."

A spokesman for Athlete said: "Our recent Glasgow show was a sell-out months in advance and we said at the time from stage that Glasgow was always our favourite place to play."

Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue said: "We've done Hogmanay shows elsewhere but Glasgow makes things special."

A spokesman for Hue and Cry said: "It's a real pleasure to bring in the New Year with our fellow Glaswegians.

"Let's show the world where the real Hogmanay city is."
