| Friday, 11 October, 2002, 05:34 GMT 06:34 UK Nursery's virtual eye-spy ![]() Parents can watch the nursery via the internet A nursery in Dundee is to become the first in Scotland to use webcams to allow parents to keep a virtual eye on their children. The cameras have been installed at the Technotots private nursery so that parents can watch their children from the home or office via the web. The pictures streamed across the internet can only be accessed by parents issued with individual passwords. However, the agency which oversees childcare has concerns over security.
The Care Commission is worried that unsuitable people will be able to gain access to images of children. The toddlers at the nursery are no strangers to new technology, as using the computer is part of the Technotots experience. Internet technology will allow mothers and fathers to log on to their own computer and see for themselves what is going on at the nursery. Technotots insists the tightest security will keep out anyone who is not a parent. Angela McGoldrick, the managing director of Technotots, said: "We have a secure website, which is password protected threefold. Child Welfare "It is as secure, if not more secure, than many of our banking systems." But the Care Commission said that although the webcams do not breach any of their conditions they still have concerns over child welfare. Jacquie Roberts of the Care Commission said: "They are assuring us over security but then I suppose one can always question where it is possible for someone you would not want to gain access to images of children to gain access." The nursery's webcam will start streaming live across the internet in the next few days. |
