After talks between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats failed to reach agreement, Labour has now begun formal talks with the Liberal Democrats about the possibility of forming a government.
The negotiations began after Prime Minister Gordon Brown agreed to stand down, paving the way for discussion between the parties.
