Some MPs have expressed anger at being told to repay expenses claims dating back five years on the basis of new, retrospective rules.
They have been set out by the retired civil servant, Sir Thomas Legg, in his review of MPs' expenses.
Party leader David Cameron says if his MPs do not pay back money requested at the end of the review, they will not be able to stand again for the Conservatives.
However Tory MP Anne Widdecombe is critical of the retrospective element of Sir Thomas's inquiry.
