Drama aims to beat 'tricksters'
A travelling theatre troupe is helping to raise awareness about distraction burglaries in Wiltshire.

A team of three actors will perform a series of special shows in the county on Monday and Tuesday.

Trickster is the story of George, an elderly man, who becomes the victim of a distraction burglar.

Wiltshire has had a particular problem with this type of crime recently. The play aims to reinforce the importance of checking the identities of callers.

Bogus callers

Sergeant Roger Bull from Wiltshire police said: "Bogus callers often claim to be from utilities such as gas companies, water or electric companies and dress in a manner which, at first glance, may seem consistent.

"They will go to great lengths to appear authentic, carrying toolbags, clipboards and the like."

Liddy Davidson, director of Age Concern Wiltshire, added: "There are many steps we can all take to prevent these disturbing crimes and Trickster will give loads of tips on what to do."

The show, which is currently touring south west England, is performed by Tim Laycock, Mark Hyde and Ruth Curtis.

It will be on at the Corn Exchange in Devizes on 5 July and at the Neeld Hall in Chippenham and the Civic Centre in Trowbridge on 6 July.
