Road named as motorbike blackspot
Motorcycle rally
Many bikers single out roads as 'challenging' routes.
A road between York and Driffield has been identified as one of the worst in Britain for motorcycle accidents.

The AA says the A166 has been the scene of 11 fatal or serious accidents in just two years.

The 25-mile stretch of road has been named as one of the 13 worst in the country by the AA-backed European Road Assessment Programme.

The A660 Leeds to Otley and the A59 Skipton to Harrogate roads were named as a high-risk for all motorists.

The AA found that motorcyclists are 30 times more likely to be killed than car drivers and make up one in six of all road deaths despite covering just 1% of all miles travelled.

Popular routes

Nearly half of the accidents involving motorbikes on the A59 occurred at junctions, mirroring the national trend.

AA Motoring Trust director John Dawson said there was an irresponsible minority who treated winding roads as a potential race track.

"Bikers are very vulnerable, and they are grossly over-represented in UK casualty figures," he said.

"Road engineers have a duty to examine the type of accidents which motorcyclists are having on certain roads."

The AA said many bikers are casualties on roads which they have singled out because they are 'challenging' routes.
