Jane in Paris on epic bike trip
Jane Tomlinson and her brother Luke Goward
Jane and Luke will attend an official reception at the embassy in Paris.
Brave Jane Tomlinson was "very hot and weary" after arriving in Paris having biked for 77 miles on the 23rd day of her marathon tandem charity ride.

Cancer sufferer Jane, 40, from Leeds, was breathless and found it difficult to walk when she arrived at the Place de la Concorde in the French capital.

Along with her brother, Luke Goward, 39, she is cycling from "Rome to Home" to raise money for charity.

Mrs Tomlinson has raised 69,000 during the epic trip across Europe.

Long day cycling

She said: "I'm very tired. It's been really hard work cycling.

"It's been a long, long day cycling. It's taken two-and-a-half hours from the outskirts of Paris and we are way behind schedule.

"We are very late. I'm very hot and weary and tired. We came along the Seine and it was lovely."

The pair have been offered accommodation at the British Embassy and on Wednesday will be given an official reception by the British Ambassador to France, Sir John Holmes.

It's a matter of will power to force yourself on the bike every day, especially when you are starting from a poor position
Jane's husband Mike
Mrs Tomlinson, who is dying form metastatic breast cancer, has now notched up over 1,200 miles on her journey from Rome, through Siena, Florence, Genoa, Monte Carlo and into France.

Her husband Mike, 43, who is watching his wife's 35-day challenge through television bulletins at home in Rothwell with their children, had said he was very concerned about his wife's health.

"The cancer pain seems to be getting worse on a daily basis. It's in her lower back which means it can be difficult to get into a good position which gives some relief.

"Even having a bath can be physically demanding.

"Because of the disease her spirits are also low. Constant pain has that effect on everyone and Jane's no different.

"It's a matter of will power to force yourself on the bike every day, especially when you are starting from a poor position."

Jane Tomlinson and her brother will leave Paris on Thursday to ride to Liancourt. The pair are aiming to be in Calais on 30 May, London on 2 June and back in Leeds on 7 June.
