Jane Tomlinson was diagnosed with cancer in 1993 |
Terminal cancer sufferer Jane Tomlinson has set herself a new year challenge of hitting the 1m fundraising mark. The 39-year-old mother of three, from Rothwell, in Leeds, has already raised 440,000 for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which helps various charities.
But now her husband Mike has said she wants to increase that total.
Although she is currently undergoing a course of chemotherapy, Mrs Tomlinson is hoping she will be well enough to enter even more gruelling events in the new year.
Huge task
"The aim will be to get as near to 1 million as we can next year if Jane's well enough," said Mr Tomlinson.
"Jane has a place in the London Marathon. If she's well enough she'd like to do it, but there's a big question mark over her health. It's a huge task."
Despite being ill as a result of her treatment, Mrs Tomlinson is still training and will announce her plans for 2004 after her last dose of chemotherapy in January.
Mr Tomlinson said: "I think, if Jane is well enough, the intention is to do an absolutely massive event in May.
Toughest contest
"It will be way bigger than anything she's done before and is probably likely to be a bike ride of some type."
However, he added that this would be the last year his wife would be competing in events.
"It's been a very tiring 20 months and she's worn out," he said.
"She'll do one more year if she's well enough and then enjoy the family."
Since first being diagnosed with cancer in 1993, Mrs Tomlinson has been involved in several demanding challenges to raise money for charity, including completing the London Marathon, the Great North Run and the London Triathlon.
In August 2003, she took part in her toughest contest so far - completing the Gatorade half marathon Ironman UK triathlon.
