The tallest tower will be two feet higher than the Blackpool Tower |
The Leeds skyline is set to undergo a dramatic change with plans for the city's own iconic landmark building. Two giant glass towers are planned to be built on Sovereign Street at a cost of 115m.
The tallest tower will stand at 520ft - two feet higher than the Blackpool Tower.
It is thought the development, which will take a number of years to build, will be a shopping complex with restaurants, a hotel and apartments.
The project is part of a major development of the city, and Charles Johnson, of Simons Estates, believes it is a big step forward for the future of Leeds.
He said: "It is a strong iconic building in the centre of the city and I think it will certainly put Leeds on the map in terms of development and it reflects how the city is now moving forward."
The scheme is already being compared to the London Eye and the Manhattan Chrysler building.
